Alberto De Flavis 1990-italy

is an Amsterdam-based oil painter whose connection with art began at an early age. After moving to Amsterdam in 2017, he developed a deeper relationship with oil painting, discovering the expressive possibilities of this timeless medium.

Working primarily with still life and contemporary realism, his practice is influenced by the Old Masters and their ability to transform ordinary subjects into something extraordinary. Through the observation of everyday objects, he explores the subtle interplay of light, colour, form and atmosphere, revealing the beauty that often goes unnoticed.

His current practice embraces alla prima painting, allowing him to work directly and intuitively, capturing a moment through the immediacy of each brushstroke. Rather than concealing the process, he allows the paint, texture and gestures of the brush to remain visible, giving the work a more authentic and expressive presence. The medium becomes more than a means of representation; it becomes a language in itself, through which he communicates his thoughts, perceptions and emotions.

Each painting is a record of a particular moment, shaped by observation, instinct and the decisions made throughout the process. By embracing the physical qualities of oil paint, De Flavis seeks to express not only what he sees, but also how he experiences it, using the materiality of painting to convey what words cannot.
